This is an older piece that I’ve recently re-engraved and tweaked/corrected some. I’ve attached two recordings, one sung by my cousin with the old version, and a rough organ rendering based on the current version. This song actually dates all the way back to 2015, when I wrote this tune for another text. At some point I will probably post this tune with the original text also when I have time to get it engraved. But this is certainly the text that has been most associated with the tune.
This is a very short piece. It could be useful as a transition during a service. The prayer is very simple, immediately calling us to be aware of the presence of our perfectly holy and awesome God. There are three repetitions of the word ‘holy’, echoing the words of the Seraphim in Isaiah’s vision–as we join into that heavenly worship ourselves. In the second verse, those three cries of ‘holy’ are given a Trinitarian understanding, as we give all glory to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I realize this setting is not exactly standard hymnody, but perhaps it could find moments of usefulness anyway. I especially love the clear focus on the holiness and majesty of God.
