I wrote this song for an upcoming wedding and set it to the traditional Irish tune, “Down by the Sally Gardens.” I would really like to have the last four lines in each verse sung in four part harmony but I can’t write music myself so I’m at a bit of an impass and wondered if there is anyone among the ranks of composers who would be interested in collaborating on the project?
1: This day two hearts are plighted
In sight of God and man.
In bonds of love united
Together, heart and hand.
“To cherish and to love
In poverty or wealth.
To have and hold. Together
In sickness and in health.”
2: May love spring ever vernal
As blossoms forth the rose.
Through all life’s days hence forward
Till life shall find her close.
“To cherish and to love
In riches, poverty.
To have, and hold. Together.
This my pledge to thee.”
3. The promise has been spoken
‘Tis wrought the vow of love.
In wedded bonds united.
Two hearts, beat now as one.
“Thy God shall be my God,
Thy dwelling place my own.
Thy people shall be mine,
Till God shall call us home. “
